The Sunshine Blogger Award – Part 2!

As promised here is the continuation of my Sunshine Blogger Nominations!! I decided to create a new post rather than update the old so these amazing bloggers get their due recognition.

The weather today is dreary again. In fact despite being April 3rd we have ice, snow, and slush here in the Midwest today! Oh what fun… I was hoping Winter would leave us weeks ago but here we are! Might as well make the most of it by making our own sunshine!!!

On a stormy day last week I was lucky enough to receive a notification from Words with Kris nominating me for the Sunshine Blogger Award! I was caught completely off guard but it really lightened my day even though it was still pouring down rain here outside the internet.

Before anything else I owe Krista a huge thank you for making my day sunnier! If you haven’t had the pleasure of reading her blog, do yourself a favor and go check it out.  She has some really thought provoking posts that I enjoyed! Click here to go right to her Home Page!

So here are the Rules:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog.
  • Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you.
  • Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions.
  • List the rules and display the sunshine blogger award logo in your post/or on your blog.

Questions by Krista:

1. What is one thing many people don’t know about you?

Many people don’t know that I used to skateboard when I was between 14-17. I usually preferred skating on half pipes more than anything else and still to this day have 4 skateboards in my trunk at all times even if they don’t get used anymore. I can’t bring myself to get rid of them!

2. What’s your favorite book/movie of all time?

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. The book, not the movie. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the movies but only when I consider them a completely different story than the books because that is what they turned into. The movies may be based on the books but they do so little justice. I honestly don’t think I have an all time favorite movie oddly enough.

3. What do you consider your spirit animal, and why?

My spirit animal is definitely a Hawk. So most people consider a spirit animal to be the animal that encompasses their personality and strengths the best. I have always been taught differently. I have been brought up with the belief that a spirit animal is the animal that best supplements your strengths. A superhero’s sidekick would be useless if they had the exact same strengths as the superhero, right?! Same with a spirit animal in my opinion. Hawks are everything I am not: patient, big-picture oriented, calm, and assertive. All things I aspire to be more of and can learn from the Hawk to improve.

4. If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?

This is such a hard question. It depends on the day is the honest answer. Today, I would pick full time writer from home. There are a lot of days I would pick this answer because spending time with my daughter, not wearing pants, and writing for money all sound fabulous. There are other days I would pick marine biologist which was my dream job as a teenager. Living in the midwest has made it challenging to pursue and while I could move to the coast it would cost more in relationships than I am willing to pay. Still on other days I would pick a variety of jobs. It really all boils down to my feelings on that particular day. Today, full time writer.

5. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

Mind reading. I am an over thinker and people pleaser. While it wouldn’t be good for me in terms of overcoming those particularly damning traits, it would be so satisfying to know what people really thought.

6. What is your absolute dream job?

Another really hard question! I am constantly torn between CEO of a business or writer from home. I will settle for writer from home who makes a salary comparable to a CEO. That is definitely my dream job.

7. What is your favorite time of year/holiday?

Autumn!!! The colors, the smells, the cool breezes mingling with the lingering summer air, Halloween, pumpkin patches, falling leaves, ugh it is all so magical and beautiful.

8. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

I would go back to Germany. I lived there when I was really young and would love to go back and explore Europe as a whole but particularly the castles in Germany. I won’t lie, I would also die to have authentic German food again.

9. What’s the main reason you started blogging?

I started blogging as a way to cope with my own inner struggles. I suffered from post partum depression when my daughter was born and I don’t think I ever really came out of it. I had an extremely hard time feeling like myself again. In fact, I couldn’t even tell you who was anymore. I knew I used to like writing. I knew I liked sharing my thoughts. I figured I have to do something, anything to get out of the rut I was in. Blogging had always been a “someday maybe” thing and I decided that there was no reason not to. So on a whim, I loaded up my first WordPress and started writing.

10. What’s some advice you wish someone had given you (or advice you wish you could give to your younger self)?

Oh there is so much advice I wish I had been given but honestly knowing my younger self, I wouldn’t have listened. I know that because I was stubborn and didn’t even listen to the advice that was given to me by loved ones and friends. Now, if I could convince myself to listen I would say “you don’t have to justify what makes you happy to anyone. If someone makes you unhappy it is OK to leave and let go even if you thought it was a forever relationship. Sometimes people grow apart for no reason other than it happens and it doesn’t mean either person is broken or needs fixed or anything negative. Not all relationships are meant to be forever.

My goodness those were some really challenging questions!! They really made me think. I love it!

OK so now I am supposed to nominate 11 more blogs that I enjoy because they make my days brighter when I read them.

When I was initially nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award I hadn’t accumulated many blogs to read yet so only nominated 3 people at first. I had also just nominated 5 blogs for the Versatile Blogger Award and wanted to avoid nominating the same people more than once in a single week.

Here is my updated promise since I couldn’t find 11 blogs at once to nominate: I solemnly swear that over the course of the next month I will do 1 more continuation of this award where I nominate 4 more bloggers for the Sunshine Blogger Award with their own question sets. This wonderful recognition will NOT end with me. If you have recommendations for blogs, yours or other people’s, please leave them in the comments!!
